DESCRIPTION:Since the World Quizzing Championships (which usually replaces the Hot 100 for June) has been postponed to 5th December\, the IQA is instead running a ‘Not the WQC’.This will be a 120-question quiz that follows the eight WQC genres and which you can play as a proctored event online on 6th June\, or as a home player from 7th June (for a week). \n\n\n\nBoth ways of playing will count towards the Irish quiz rankings\, though the home player option will not carry IQA ranking points. \n\n\n\nIf you’ve never done a ranking event because of difficulty getting to a venue\, then this is an ideal chance to play from home and get on the Irish rankings. \n\n\n\nMore information  |  Sign up

DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately\, due to the COVID-19 situation\, we have no choice but to cancel the 2020 Celtic Nations and plan to host the event in Dublin in 2021 instead. Stay safe everyone! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe Irish Quiz Organisation is excited to welcome the Scottish and Welsh teams to Dublin for the Celtic Nations Quizzing Championships 2020! \n\n\n\nWHO CAN TAKE PART? \n\n\n\nAll quizzers from the three countries are welcome to take part in the majority of events. Only the national team matches are restricted to the teams selected by each country. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nENTRY FEE \n\n\n\nThe entry fee is €20 per person. \n\n\n\nWe appreciate this is a higher fee for players than in previous years\, but it is necessary in order to secure a suitable venue in Dublin\, and we hope it represents good value for a full weekend of quizzing. Even with charging an entry fee\, the Irish Quiz Organisation will still be subsidising the event from its funds. \n\n\n\nVENUE \n\n\n\nThe quiz venue is the Carnegie Court Hotel in the town of Swords\, close to Dublin airport. \n\n\n\nThe hotel is approx. 20 mins from Dublin Airport by bus (41)\, or 11 mins by taxi (approx. €15). It is a 5 minute walk from Swords town centre and has a selection of pubs\, shops and restaurants nearby. A small family run hotel\, it has 36 guest rooms\, a nightclub\, restaurant and a pub (The Harp) attached. \n\n\n\nSpecial Celtic Nations hotel rates (limited availability):€119/night for a single room\, including breakfast€129/night for two sharing a double or twin room\, including breakfastTo avail of the special rate\, call the hotel at +353 1 840 4384 and mention “Celtic Nations”. \n\n\n\nFor anyone driving\, parking will be validated free of charge. \n\n\n\nOther hotels and accommodation options are also available nearby. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIRISH TEAM SELECTION \n\n\n\nAs in 2019\, the Irish teams for the national team matches will be selected by a 3-person selection panel. The panel will use the Irish quiz rankings (available on quizireland.ie) as a key indicator of who should compete on each team\, but it will also have the freedom to include quizzers not on the rankings (or who haven’t completed enough events to reach an appropriate ranking)\, rotate players among teams\, match up quizzers based on strengths and weaknesses\, and so on. \n\n\n\nWithin reason\, the panel will endeavour to give most (if not all) Irish quizzers who travel to the event a place on a team at some stage\, but it must balance this with the need to field strong\, competitive Irish teams\, so it’s not guaranteed that all Irish quizzers will get onto a team. We are looking at the possibility of running some sort of online quiz on the 29th instead\, so watch out for details of that.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfter the success of 2019’s inaugural Interprovincial Quiz Championships\, we’re delighted to announce that 2019’s winning province – Munster – will be hosting the 2020 Interprovincials on Sunday 29th March 2020 at the Woodstock Hotel\, just outside Ennis\, Co. Clare. \n\n\n\nWho can compete?\n\n\n\nEntrants can compete for the province of their birth\, the province where they live\, or any province that they have a connection to. There is a limited bus service from Shannon Airport to Ennis. Taxis are generally readily available. If there are a number of people flying in on Saturday\, collection and transfer to Ennis can be arranged. \n\n\n\n** Do not book any non-refundable travel until we confirm you are included on a team! ** \n\n\n\nBy Bus & Train\n\n\n\nEnnis is very well served by bus and train services. The Dublin Coach ‘Green Bus’ stop is just in the car park at the rear of the Temple Gate Hotel\, near Ennis town centre. Buses depart from Burgh Quay Dublin 17 times a day at a quarter to the hour and take 3.5 hours to reach Ennis serving the Red Cow\, Kildare Village\, Annacotty\, University of Limerick\, Limerick City Centre (Arthur’s Quay) and Bunratty. Buses from Ennis to Limerick and Dublin depart on the hour from the hotel car park with the last bus on Sunday evening at 8 pm. After approx. 100 metres\, turn left onto Shanaway Road and the Woodstock Golf and Country Hotel is approx. one mile up that road on the left hand side. The hotel is on the right and the golf clubhouse is on the left as you enter the site. Parking is free at Woodstock hotel. \n\n\n\nFood\n\n\n\nLunch is available in Woodstock Hotel on Sunday. We will schedule a break for lunch between around 1:30 and 3:00 pm. A menu will be available from 10:30 to pre-book your lunch. The hotel have offered us a deal for a one course lunch including tea or coffee for €15 and a two course lunch with tea/coffee for €19. \n\n\n\nAccommodation\n\n\n\nWoodstock Hotel has agreed an overnight rate of €60 per person sharing on the Saturday night & €50 per person sharing on the Sunday night. These can be booked directly with Jenny McNamara at Woodstock Hotel (Tel 065 6899800 / Email jmcnamara@hotelwoodstock.ie) and mention the IQO Interprovincials Quiz when making the booking. Ennis is well served with other hotels but this rate will be difficult to beat. The Temple Gate\, Old Ground and Queen’s Hotel are all within walking distance of Ennis town centre while the West County and Auburn Lodge are a much longer walk\, drive or taxi ride away. Bed & Breakfasts as well as Air BnB are plentiful in and around Ennis. \n\n\n\n** REMINDER: Do not book any non-refundable accommodation until we confirm you are included on a team! ** \n\n\n\nActivities\n\n\n\nFor those who want to make a weekend of it in Ennis there is also a mature 18 hole parklands golf course next door to Woodstock Hotel for those who might want to play that sport or game on Saturday\, Sunday or indeed Monday. The Cliffs of Moher and the Burren National Park are less than an hour away by car. There may also be some informal quizzing on the Saturday and/or Sunday nights.
