10 years ago this week, in September 2015, about 40 quizzers crammed into JW Sweetman’s pub on Dublin’s south quays to play the first round of a new team tournament, the Dublin Quiz League. From that small beginning, DQL has gone from strength to strength and continues to run a new season for 6 months every year. So now at the 10th anniversary it’s the perfect time to announce a new season.
For those not familiar, Dublin Quiz League is an annual competition that takes place one Monday night per month in Dublin city centre over a 6-month period every year, usually from Autumn to Easter. Teams of 4 play other teams on every match night to earn points for the league table — and at the end of the season, the top teams win cash prizes!
If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, go ahead and RSVP by filling out this registration form by Wednesday October 8th (If signing up as an individual we will allocate you to an available team) If you’re not sure if you want to commit, fill in the form anyway and come along to our new player Open Night on Sept 29th where you can play a match for free with no obligation, to see if you’ll enjoy it.
The cost per season is €60 per team (minimum of 4 people) or €15 per individual. Most of the takings go to fund the league’s cash prizes – last season we had a top prize of €300 for the league champions and a total prize fund of nearly €1,000!
Here are the two key dates for your diary:
Monday September 29th: DQL Open Night in the Parnell Heritage Bar, Parnell Street from 7.30pm.
This is a casual night for new players and teams only to come along and see how the League works. We’ll explain the rules and play a practice game so people can “try before they buy”. Remember you don’t need a team, you can come along as an individual (or a pair etc) and we’ll sort you out with teammates on the night. Further details on our Open Night event page.
Monday October 13th – League kickoff
This will be the first night of the League proper. Exact venues to be confirmed (since it depends on how many teams sign up) but we’re highly likely to use the same two venues as last year: The Parnell on Parnell St and TP Smith’s on Jervis St. Don’t forget that returning teams need to RSVP too: captains should use the same registration form as linked above.
The rest of the league schedule will also be confirmed when we know how many teams we have, but for now we’re assuming the season will run from October to April, with matches occurring monthly on one Monday night every month — avoiding bank holidays, etc. Here are the tentative dates for next season:
