Irish Open

Newsflash: The Irish Open 2023 was held on Sunday 24th September as part of the Irish Quizzing Championships. Congratulations to Mark Henry, the 2023 champion! See full results

Held every year since 2013, the Irish Open is the IQO’s premier quiz event.

Typically held in a Dublin venue in late September, the event consists of a 2-paper solo written quiz, with each paper lasting 1 hour. The highest score at the end is crowned Irish Quiz Open champion – an illustrious honour which has been won by, among others, Pat Gibson from TV’s Eggheads and Paul “Sinnerman” Sinha from The Chase.

The event is called the Irish “Open” because, like similar quiz events (the British Open, Norwegian Open, etc.) it means anyone is welcome to enter, there are no eligibility restrictions. It also means we make the questions available to other quiz associations around the world free of charge, so they can organise their own events. For example, with the 2019 Irish Open, apart from the main Irish venue in Dublin, there were over 300 quizzers sitting the quiz on the same weekend, in over 30 satellite venues all around the world, from Bucharest to Borneo, and from Croatia to Kazakhstan!

If you’d be interested in hosting a future Irish Open in your country, we’d love to hear from you via the Contact Us page. Despite the “Irish” title, the questions are deliberately international in scope, so they’re suitable for eager quizzers from any country.
