The second Irish Open was held on Saturday 8th March 2014 in the Addison Lodge pub, in Glasnevin on Dublin’s northside. In fact it was the first Irish Open to actually have that name (the original open in 2013 was called the “Dublin Open”).
Just over 20 quizzers packed into the Addison Lodge’s back room to take the wide-ranging question set written by the IQO committee trio of John Groarke, Colm O’Sullivan and Derek Cray. As has become traditional, the “serious” quiz was followed later in the afternoon by a fun team quiz hosted by Colm O’Sullivan.
In the end Lorcan Duff emerged as the champion for the second year running with a highly-impressive 183 out of 240. Dave McBryan finished second on 171 with Kevin Jones in 3rd, just 1 point behind on 170.
Nearly 40 international quizzers took the quiz on the same weekend, mainly in India and UAE. The top international score was India’s Vikram Joshi on 169.
