Irish Quiz Open 2018

On 29th September 2018, over two dozen of Ireland’s top quizzers gathered in Dublin for the 2018 Irish Open. Following the closure of long-time venue The Addison Lodge, this year’s Open was held for the first time in the upstairs bar at the Leinster Badminton Centure in Terenure, which was to become the IQO’s “default” venue for many of its events.

The winner on the day was Mark Henry, beating Lorcan Duff by a mere 2 points (Mark scored 153 out of 240 questions) and thereby winning his second Irish Open, having previously triumphed in 2016.

For the second year in a row, the Irish Open questions themselves were written by IQO chairman John Nolan. And as is traditional, the main quiz was followed later in the afternoon by a fun team quiz, with teams made up on the day. This year’s fun quiz was an Only Connect-style quiz written by the IQO’s Dan O’Malley.
