World Quizzing Championships 2015: Irish heat

On Saturday 6th June 2015, two dozen of Ireland’s finest quizzers assembled in the Clonamore House Hotel, just outside Tullamore Co. Offaly, to tackle the World Quizzing Championships. Our Irish venue was one of dozens around the world doing the same quiz on the same day, with over 2,000 people worldwide vying for the title of World Quizzing Champion.

On the day, the world champion was Olav Bjortomt from England.

Congratulations to Mark Henry, who achieved the best score at the official Irish venue. Irish quizzers were also competing at other venues around the world, and the top Irish scorer overall was Lorcan Duff (only ranked ahead of Dave McBryan by virtue of a better score in his weakest subject), with the top 5 Irish as follows::

  • 1. Lorcan Duff 121 (39th overall)
  • 2. Dave McBryan 121 (40th overall)
  • 3. Mark Henry 117 (53rd overall)
  • 4. Kevin Jones 116 (59th overall)
  • 5. David Lea 107 (105th overall)

Well done also to the team quiz winners in Tullamore (John Hayes, Ger Slattery, Peter Lowney & John O’Sullivan), to the quick-thinking spot prize winners, and to Gary Stephens for setting an excellent team quiz.
