Previously known as the OQL Individual Championships, the OQL Live VIII is a series of 8 quizzes taking place throughout 2026. Each event is an individual written quiz where hundreds of players across venues in the UK and Ireland sit the same 240 questions at the same time with 30 questions in each of the standard OQL categories. The OQL crowns winners in each category as well as an overall top 10. This event will also include fun team quizzes and buzzer quizzes at each of the venues.

You can pay £14/€15 for one event or avail of discounts for signing up to multiple events. Plus if it’s your first time attending one of these quizzes you can play for just €1!

About the event

The event takes place upstairs in Ryan’s Bar, Store Street – across the street from Busáras and Store Street Garda Station.
The rough timetable for the day is as follows:

• 12 noon SHARP: Arrive and welcome
• 12.15pm-2.00pm: Individual quiz
• 2.00pm-2.30pm: Marking
• 2.30pm-3.00pm: Break
• 3.00pm-4.00pm: Fun team quiz
• 4.00pm-5.00pm: Informal buzzer quizzing

In the main Individual quiz event, players will have 105 minutes to answer 240 questions: 30 Qs in each of 8 categories as follows:

• Art and Literature – this will include all culture as well as classical music/ballet
• Television and Film – This category will include TV and Film from all genres and eras
• Geography – Much like OQL geography this round will include many social sciences as well as human and physical geography
• History – All history, current events, politics and a few other areas such as law
• Lifestyle – This is the general lifestyle category which covers things such as fashion, celebs, food and drink, fitness, alternative medicines and more
• Pop Culture – This is where you’ll find pop music questions which will make up about 50% of this round, the rest will be other forms of popular entertainment such as computer games, board games, podcasts, radio, anime, comics and the like
• Science – This will be a pure science round covering all areas of science, nature and the universe
• Sport – Exactly what it says on the tin

At the end of the day the OQL will crown an overall champion as well as their 8 category champions.

The main individual quiz will be followed by a fun team quiz with teams made up on the day, and an informal buzzer quiz where players use their smartphones to buzz.
