Two of the IQO’s regular league competitions recently finished their latest season:
In the seventh season of the Dublin Quiz League which had been running since November, the finale occurred on April 17th in the spacious surroundings of the Parnell Heritage Pub, just off O’Connell Street.
The overall league champions were The Artist Formerly Known As Jules – the catchy name is due to the outfit mostly comprising of DQL stalwarts Team Jules, although the name was changed due to the eponymous captain Jules moving out of the country! It was the second victory for this squad, the original Team Jules having previously triumphed back in 2016. So congratulations to Frank Tobin and his merry men, who for their trouble pick up the John O’Sullivan Memorial Trophy as DQL champions and also pocket our €300 top prize!
In total, the first, second and third-placed from both divisions also shared a total prize fund of over €900 – congratulations to all our winners, the remainder of our 20 teams who took part this season and we hope to see everyone in person again when we start the League up again in the Autumn. (See the bottom of this post for more details on how to register for next season)

Meanwhile online, the Zoom-based Irish Quiz League recently finished its third season – having started in lockdown in 2021 when the Dublin Quiz League couldn’t be held in person, the popularity of the Irish Quiz League has seen it persist even past the end of COVID restrictions. The third IQL season started in January 2023 and ran 2-3 Mondays a month until finishing on April 24th – however, even though the League is now finished, play is continuing as we speak with an IQL Cup competition running throughout the month of May.
Anyway, as for the League winners, Frank Tobin managed a double as he was also the captain of this season’s IQL champions A Tribe Called Cheist. (In case we have any non-Irish speakers in the audience, Cheist – pronounced “kesht”- is the Irish word for “question”) The moniker is different from his DQL team name because the team itself is completely different! Frank’s DQL teammates either don’t play IQL at all or else play for different teams (for example Patrick Carthy, who is the captain of IQL rivals The Rollin’ Estonians).
Once again Frank and his teammates trousered €300 for their IQL championship win and again the top 6 teams win cash – though this season in IQL the number of teams was a step larger than DQL (26 teams compared to 20) and hence the total prize pot was slightly higher: just over €1,000 in total.
